Professional Stuntman Does Backflip Over Speeding Formula E Racer: Video

There are things in this life that I just don’t understand. Sometimes, these things are complicated enough that comprehending them is an exercise in and of itself. Other times, I simply don’t find the need to understand them. Then there are times that just makes me wonder why somebody would subject themselves to things that nobody in their right mind would do.

The stunt that professional stuntman Damien Walters recently pulled off qualifies in that last category. I get it that he does things like this for a living. I just wouldn’t be caught dead trying to flip backwards as a moving Formula E speeds by.

I give him credit for doing it; I really do. It’s an amazing stunt, especially when you consider that he had his back on a race car that was doing 60 mph in relative silence! Sure, Walters used a digital clock to act as his signal on when to perform the backflip, but if he missed that 6.6-second time by just a fraction of a second, I’d be writing something far more somber in tone. I can’t even begin to imagine what was going through his head, but then again, as a pro at performing daredevil leaps like this one, Walters has a far different understanding of the risks that come with these kind of stunts.

The result is incredible. He successfully made the backflip jump with plenty of air to let the racer pass by under his head. By all accounts, this is the real deal too, not the stunt that Nike, and Kobe Bryant pulled off some years back. In fact, reports say that Walters himself was the one who pitched the idea to Formula E and once he was given the green light to do it, he spent the better part of two days preparing for the stunt with a crew of 60 people in Mexico.

It’s an incredible sight to see and definitely worthy of your time.
